Synergy is a wonderful thing!
EMC owns portable hard disk maker Iomega. They also own virtualization software maker VMWare. That means that for them, v.Clone makes sense as a whole --- so we now have a sort of “portable” installation of VMWare. Meaning that you can now attach a v.Clone based Iomega portable drive into any Windows computer and boot into your “saved” virtual machine. You’ll be booting into an exact copy of your base PC.
With v.Clone you start with an exact copy of your base PC—applications, associations, files, settings, etc—using the built-in VMWare imager, and then run that VM copy from other Windows-based computer. Great --- but the real benefit here is SYNCHRONIZATION!! With v. Clone when you reconnect with the base PC, any changes you made while running the virtual machine are automatically synced back to your base PC. And vice-versa. The syncing process is reportedly incremental so the actual sync should be quite speedy.
Although the software is FREE it will only run on Iomega drives. I’m not sure how they pull that off since a drive is a drive is a drive, but hey, it’s FREE!
