I first saw Yoggie Security System at CES 2008 --- and this year they made a second appearance and I took a second look. They make itty-bitty USB computers. Yup, that’s right --- computers. They actually have an OS (it’s Linux) in a USB device and the little guys provide some pretty amazing security servi es. Essentially it replaces your software
firewall and protects your computer from malicious attacks --- with a PHYSICAL barrier. The result looks to be a performance boost since all the “thinking” is done by the Yoggie device. Pretty interesting concept for somewhere in the $120 range with the free copy of Kaspersky™ Anti-Virus.
This time they were touting the launch of their new Online Anonymity feature. Now you can completely ‘cloak’ your Web browsing making it virtually impossible for anyone to see or track your data, or even identify your computer or locate your country of operation. It even protects you from spying by anyone on your local network or your ISP or any other authority that might employ tracking and spy programs. You can even configure Yoggie to state what country you are browsing from, thus allowing you to circumvent country-specific content.
The new feature will be automatically downloaded by all existing Yoggie devices.
We’re beginning to see more and more of these little USB “computers” on a stick. Stay tuned for more examples.
