Whew --- what a week! I flew out to Las Vegas on Tuesday and started the "CES Experience" early. I've done this massive show enough to know quite a few tricks, but nothing really works when trying to cram 2,500 exhibitors into just 3 days. The "booths" occupied almost 1.7 MILLION square feet of space and the 150,000+ attendees came from 110 different countries. I was pretty judicious in where I went and at which booths I stopped. Unfortunately I get distracted by shiny new technology so I sometimes went astray.
I have literally dozens of interesting technologies to write about over the next several weeks. (At least I think they're interesting --- but you'll be the final arbitrator of that, right?)
My first surprise (unrelated to the practice of public accounting) was the rapid development of IPTV products and services. There were no less than 50 exhibitors, including heavyweights like Microsoft, Yahoo, Intel and Google, showing IPTV-based "stuff". I just bought and remodeled a townhouse and pulled Cat6 cable throughout the house and added IP jacks at every TV location. I wasn't sure that I'd get to use them for the next several years --- but now their use appears MUCH closer.
Stay tuned for more product and service notes from CES2006.
