I spent all day (and a good part of the night!) yesterday with a small group of amazing people discussing and determining the fate of a very long list of "technologies" for final consideration to be included in the survey / voting process. Today the group expanded and refined the list --- and the voting invitations will go out next week. The process isn't pretty, and it's certainly not "efficient", but it IS effective. The topic candidates aren't "tidy" and deciding their positioning is tedious, to say the least.
Technology is an integral part of our practices and, as CPAs are trusted business advisers, we need to stay technologically competent and intricately involved in the flow of information within our clients' business. To that end the AICPA established the Top 10 Technologies nearly 20 years ago --- and the process of selecting the Top 10 has been evolving ever since.
Originally a small group project in a lab setting, the committee has grown into an initiative voted on by CITP certificate holders, members of the Information Technology Membership Section, and, this year, members of ISACA.
This is a great learning experience to be surrounded by so many extrememly bright people --- I'm honored to be included.
